Jaguar C-X75 Concept
To celebrate the big 7-5, Jaguar has rolled out its XJ220-inspired 780-horsepower C-X75 RE-EV (range-extended electric vehicle) concept. Power for this looker is supplied by electric motors working in conjunction with "micro gas-turbines", which also throw in 1180 lb-ft / 1,600 Nm of torque. Jaguar claims the 6-hour-to-charge plug-in sports car has a range of 560 / 900 km miles and an Lithium-ion-only range of 68 miles with a "potential top speed" of 205 mph (330 km/h).

The four 195-horse / 145 kW electric motors are mounted at the corners (one at each wheel) and provide torque vectoring, while the turbines - which can charge the batteries or add 188 horsepower in Track mode - are located centrally in a Texalium-lined compartment. Cooling for the turbines comes from the design of the car itself, which uses integrated channels to move air to the necessary areas.

Inside the car, people will find all the sport-lux essentials: leather, neoprene, soft-touch materials, polished and vapor-blasted aluminum, and seats mounted directly to the bulkhead "as in a single-seater racing car".

Then how does someone get into a comfortable driving position? Glad you asked; all the driver's essentials (steering wheel, gauges, etc.) move forward and then slide back for simplified ingress/egress through the out-and-up doors.

Taking a note from Saab and Spyker, there are a few aeronautical touches throughout the cabin a well. Examples include the gear shifter, a trick switch in the overhead panel that starts the car, and a "stealth" setting that reduces ambient lighting when in track mode.

Also found on the concept is "dramatic theater lighting" which lights up various areas of the car when the key fob is detected nearby, as well as certain interior areas (like the Bowers & Wilkins speakers) when the car is turned on.

Jaguar Land Rover CEO Dr. Ralf Speth says, "Performance through innovation has always been a Jaguar hallmark. From the beginning, cars such as the C-Type and D-Type pioneered aluminum construction, aerodynamic design, racing monocoques and disc brakes. The C-X75 demonstrates that the company is still leading the field in automotive design and technology."

Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale
The GranTurismo MC Stradale is a racier, sportier version of Maser's big coupe. According to the Italian sports / luxury carmaker, the MC Stradale didn't budge an inch when it came to comprises in return for performance; it handles better without losing ride quality (that has yet to be tested), it's more powerful without sacrificing fuel economy, and it plants itself harder without adding any drag.

Under the hood is a Ferrari-sourced 4.7-liter V8 that develops 450 horsepower and 510 Nm / 376 lb ft of torque. The GT racer was also put on a diet, shedding 110 kilograms in the process (it now weigh 1,770 kg and keeps its 48/52 weight distribution).

According to the Italians, the MC Stradale is the first normal-production, road-going Maserati to break the 300km/h [186 mph] barrier.

The car routs power through an "electro-actuated" transmission that shifts in a scant 60 milliseconds; launched optimally, the car should hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.6 seconds.

Inside, the car gets a "simplified" dash layout, loses the rear seats, and picks up some racing buckets (as well as an optional roll cage and 4-point harnesses). Also, besides having an "Auto" and "Sport" mode, there's the first-ever "Race" mode found in a road-going Maserati.

Back on the outside, there are a bunch of new little add-ons for performance, weight reduction, and just plain good looks. All-new parts included in the exterior modifications are: a new front splitter, front and rear bumpers, front guard panels, side sills, hood, and exhaust tips.

The Lamborghini concept that’s been naughtily teased over the past month has been unveiled! It’s called the Sesto Elemento and it looks gorgeously outrageous, as spectacular as the name. Sesto Elemento is Italian for Sixth Element, and the sixth element in the periodic table is carbon. Get it?

Boasting an extremely lightweight construction thanks to advanced carbonfibre technology, the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento has an overall curb weight of just 999 kg including its V10 engine and permanent all-wheel drive. That’s very little weight for 570 hp to pull (sensational power-to-weight ratio of only 1.75 kg per hp) and 0 to 100 km/h acceleration is done in only 2.5 seconds!

“Systematic lightweight engineering is crucial for future super sports cars: for the most dynamic performance, as well as for low emissions. We will apply this technological advantage right across our model range. Every future Lamborghini will be touched by the spirit of the Sesto Elemento,” said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.

2011 Volkswagen Passat
Volkswagen is slowly in the process of refreshing its entire product portfolio, and right on the heels of the recently introduced 2011 Jetta comes the seventh-generation Passat. The automaker's new corporate design language is in full force here, and observations of the new Passat looking like a big Jetta will not be disagreed with.

A full range of gasoline and diesel engines will be available when the Passat launches later this year. In North America, it's safe to assume that we'll receive the 207-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder as well as the 296-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6, but we won't rule out the possibility of Volkswagen offering its well-liked 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine, as well. All engines can be mated to either a six-speed manual or dual-clutch automatic gearbox, and like previous Passats, 4Motion all-wheel drive should be available on top-end models.

The Passat will also be available with Volkswagen's XDS electronic differential, which first debuted on the GTI hatch. This system helps reduce understeer and improve overall traction in slippery conditions, and we imagine that it will quickly make its way to the vast majority of VW products. What's more, a new optional city emergency braking function automatically stops the car at speeds below 18 miles per hour when an imminent collision is detected, sort of like the self-stopping systems by Volvo (which, as we've seen, don't always work correctly).

Both the sedan and wagon Estate models go on sale in the UK next month, though don't get too attached to the cars if you live in the U.S. The new Passat will only be sold in Europe and other global markets, while North America will get specially-designed-for-us New Midsized Sedan, or NMS. Hit the jump for the full details in VW's press blast.

Lotus Esprit Concept
The Lotus Esprit is finally back, and once it’s launched in Spring 2013 it will put Lotus firmly back in the road-going supercar world. That means Lotus has got about 2 years to develop this car, and their engine partnership with Toyota should be able to give them a little head start as engine development does not have to be from scratch.

The preliminary specs (more of a product planning target) aims to give the Esprit a massive 620 PS and 720Nm of power to lug around 1,450kg of weight up to 100km/h in 3.4 seconds. Lotus will most likely take a big Toyota V8 and supercharge it to be able to reach its intended performance goals. The V8 is supposed to be mounted

V8s generally sound very good, and Lotus quotes a redline of 8,500rpm in its specs sheet so its going to be a screaming high revving unit. The final piece of equation is the kind of intake sounds that forced induction makes. Should be very fun to trash around indeed just for the aural soundtrack.

In the intro video where key Lotus personnel introduce the Esprit, it’s interesting to note that the old Esprit’s product placement in James Bond movies was mentioned.

The new 2+2 seater Lotus Elan is positioned somewhere in between the Lotus Elise and the Esprit, and it has its engine positioned in the mid-engine position, with rear wheel drive. Lotus says the Elan will be powered by a 4.0 liter V6 making 450 PS and 465Nm of torque, which can take the Elan up to 100km/h in 3.5 seconds.

This V6 engine could also be sourced from Toyota as the Japanese company has the 1GR-FE installed mainly in its trucks and SUVs. Toyota themselves have force inducted the engine – their TRD division offers a TRD supercharger kit for the engine used in the Toyota Tacoma and Toyota FJ Cruiser trucks.

The Elan will hit the market much earlier than the other larger and more expensive cars we’ve seen here – it will also be released before the next generation Elise. Lotus is targeting a summer 2013 start of production, with cars hitting the showrooms in autumn 2013, just 3 years from now.

“If there was ever a car to make you drive the long way home, it’s the Elan. Perfect for both road and track, the Elan not only ticks all the boxes, it creates new ones too. The Elan will convert people to Lotus, I would challenge people not to become addicted to driving it. It will also go a long way towards dispelling the old misconceptions about this class, that in order to have high performance you must sacrifice usability – those days are gone,” said Lotus CEO Dany Bahar. The black cabin showcased on the Paris 2010 concept car certainly looks nice – I think it’s the best of all the Lotus concepts. The Elan looks like a 911 competitor?

Here's the official statement from the Japanese automaker: "The GT-R engineering team are currently at the Nordschliefe, the legendary circuit in Germany, where they are in the process of signing-off the final updates on the forthcoming enhanced GT-R. Full details of the enhanced GT-R will be announced on 18th October 2010,"

From what we can see, the 2012 model year version of the Godzilla boasts a new front bumper with LED running lights, a revised rear diffuser and new alloy wheels.

According to documents leaked back in August, the changes are said to help drop the GT-R's drag coefficient from 0.272 to 0.268 while also improving rear downforce by 10%. The car is also expected to benefit from chassis and engine modifications.
