After a spectacular showing at the Paris Motor Show made up of five breathtakingly awesome reveals, Lotus has decided we can't get enough of a good thing and is rolling out one more. First, let's recap the five concept vehicles we've already laid eyes on: Elite, Espirit, Elise, Eterne hybrid and Elan. What's number six? The new Lotus City Car concept, which we assume has to be the last of the company's breathtaking unveilings scheduled for this year's show. Right?

The City Car concept, as its name implies, is an economic urban runabout. But there's much more to it than that. The concept employs a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a 1.2-liter three-cylinder range extender engine carefully packaged within the tight confines. Lotus claims an electric-only range of 37 miles before that joyous range extender swings into action delivering at least 165 miles more. With a total range exceeding 300 miles, a CO2 emissions rating below 60 grams per kilometer and 0-60 accomplished in less than ten seconds, the Lotus City Car concept combines remarkable efficiency with performance above what's expected in its segment.

Throw in some dazzling looks, a top speed in excess of 100 miles per hour and a flex-fuel-capable engine, Lotus' concept appears more than capable enough to capture the city car segment, if the price is kept in check. Lotus has not revealed firm plans to offer its City Car concept to the public, but if the automaker decides to give it the nod, then production is at least a few years away.

This year's edition of the Paris show will see the VW Group's successful Skoda brand unveiling its first-ever electric-powered vehicle called the Octavia Green E Line. Skoda says it is planning to create a special test fleet of Octavias Green E Line in 2011 with the goal of obtaining additional information relevant to the further development of the electric drive.

The concept model is based on the series production Octavia Combi [estate] and is powered by an electric motor delivering a constant power of 60 kW / 80-hp and a maximum output of 85 kW / 114-hp. Peak torque of 270Nm or 199 lb-ft is available right from the start.

The pure-electric Octavia accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in twelve seconds, while the car's maximum speed is limited to 135 km/h (84mph).

Electricity for the drive motor is supplied by a 26.5 kWh battery made up of 180 lithium-ion cells, which weighs around 315 kg or 695 pounds and is located under the middle and rear parts of the floor extending partly into the luggage compartment.

Skoda claims the battery has "almost no impact" on the volume of the passenger and luggage compartments of the Octavia Combi.

At full capacity, the battery is said to offer a driving range of about 140 kilometers or 87 miles.

The concept model at the Paris show will be finished in a Pearl-white exterior color and feature a glossy black roof with integrated energy-generating photovoltaic panels.

Honda presented the 2011 model year version of its UK-built, European-market Civic hatch in Paris this week. The Japanese automaker's Golf rival benefits from some minor updates, mostly limited to the grille, interior fabrics and alloy wheel designs on some models.

More specifically, the Perspex grille is gone on the 5-door hatchback and it has been replaced with the same mesh grille used on the three-door Civics. A new color has also been introduced to the range: Ionized Bronze.

Inside, the base Civic gets seats trimmed in a combination of cloth and alcantara, while the special edition GT gets half leather and Alcantara as standard. The GT model also gets unique 17-inch alloy wheels, further differentiating it from the standard models.

The Audi A1 1.4 TFSI (136 kW)

- Audi presents new top engine version for the Audi A1 at the Paris Motor Show
- 1.4 TFSI engine with 136 kW (185 hp) and 250 Nm (184.39 lb-ft)
- Fuel consumption of 5.9 l/100 km (39.87 US mpg), CO2 emissions of 139 g/km (223.7 g/mile)

INGOLSTADT, Germany, Sep 20, 2010 - The Audi A1, the premium car among the small compacts, has been a major success following its market debut. And now Audi is presenting the new top version – the A1 1.4 TFSI (136 kW). Its taut chassis provides sporty handling, while the dual-charged 1.4 TFSI delivers 136 kW (185 hp) of power and the S tronic dual-clutch transmission comes standard. The A1 1.4 TFSI (136 kW) also impresses with groundbreaking efficiency, consuming on average just 5.9 liters of fuel per 100 km (39.87 US mpg), which corresponds to CO2 emissions of just 139 g/km (223.70 g/mile) (provisional figures).

The A1 1.4 TFSI (136 kW) has a confident appearance. The single-frame grille, the striking roof arch, the flat C-pillar, the wrap-around engine hood and luggage hatch and the tornado line show its sporty potential even when it is at a standstill.

The A1 1.4 TFSI (136 kW) has a compact, lightweight engine with four valves per cylinder. This produces an impressive 136 kW (185 hp) and 250 Nm (184.39 lb-ft) of torque. The sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) takes just 6.9 seconds, and the top speed is 227 km/h (141.05 mph) (performance figures are provisional).

The spontaneous response and high propulsive power, even at high speeds, are achieved thanks to its special concept – a combination of supercharger and turbocharger.

The supercharger springs into action at 1,500 rpm and in most situations is disengaged at 2,400 rpm. From 3,500 rpm at the latest, the turbocharger does all the work. Because it doesn't have to do as much work at the low end of the rev range, the developers were able to use a large turbo and design it for high efficiency.

Welcome to the Twizy, Renault's third model in its Zero Emissions lineup after the Fluence Z.E. and Kangoo Van Z.E. The little city car pod is an all-electric mix between a scooter and a car, allowing for clean and efficient city driving thanks to its 20-horsepower / 42 lb-ft (57 Nm) electric motor. That helps it reach a top speed of 47 mph after it has charged for 3.5 hours.

Renault plans to build the tandem two-seat Twizy in Valladolid, Spain for a late-2011 European release (early 2012 in the UK), and orders can be placed online right now at the official Z.E. site. Aimed at urbanites looking for an adorable second car, Renault says it may also be suitable for teen drivers as a pre-car car. How? it may be drivable in some countries with a lower top speed of 28 mph and without a driving license (feel free to discuss that below).

Since the Twizy is a very open car, additional door panels will be available to seal the lower area should harsh weather show up. For practicality, storage is located under the rear seat (31 liters that's expandable to 55 liters) and on either side of the steering wheel (3 liters). Behind the steering wheel you'll see a display housing an "econometer", available range, and other necessary stats.

Safety features include the collapsible pod set within the four wheels, a driver airbag, and 4- and 3-point harnesses (front and rear, respectively).

The three Twizys shown at Paris were designed by Renault to emphasize the customization possibilities available to consumers; they include the Twizy Dot Dot (providing an "emphasis on elegance"), the Circuit (with a sci-fi touch), and the Totem (the automotive equivalent of a tribal tattoo). There will be nine more customized virtual Twizys online, with the highest-rated design getting its own limited edition when the car debuts.

Renault has released the first photos of its latest concept car, the all-electric DeZir ahead of its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show in September 2010. What's important about this new concept is its styling as it heralds the firm's new design direction. Its aim is to get people talking about Renault's styling again.
The DeZir project is the first to have been led by Renault's new chief designer Laurens van den Acker who took over from Patrick le Quement in 2009. Before joining Renault, the Dutch designer worked for Mazda where he was responsible for many projects including the Nagara, Ryuga and Hakaze concepts, while he has also spent time at Ford and Audi.
One of the most important design features of the DeZir is the front-end styling as according to the company, it previews the new front-end identity that is set to become a feature of all Renault models in the near future.
The two-seater Gullwing-door sports car measures 4.2 meters in length and 1.1 meters in height, meaning it's slightly longer but substantially lower (216mm) than an Audi TT.
Beneath the skin, the DeZir features an electric motor mounted in a mid-rear position driving the rear wheels and a vertically-mounted 24kWh lithium-ion battery located behind the benchseat that provides the car with a range of 160 kilometers / 100 miles.
The electric motor is the same as the unit used for Renault's production electric cars, although upgraded to produce 110kW (150HP) and 226Nm of torque.
Through the extensive use of lightweight materials such as the Kevlar body, the DeZir tips the scales at just 830kg or 1,830 pounds. According to the French carmaker, the DeZir can go from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in 5 seconds and reach a top speed of 180km/h or 112mph.

Audi has finally revealed its 'quattro concept' in Paris to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original car's 1980 debut. The new quattro, much like the original, gets driven around the rally stages of your dreams by a turbocharged 5-cylinder.
In this case, though, the 2.5-liter unit makes 408-horsepower / 300 kW and uses a 6-speed manual transmission to drive all four 20-inch wheels with 480 Nm / 354 lb-ft. Behind the center-locking dubs are carbon-ceramic discs wearing 6-piston grippers.
With its high-output 5-pot and diet, the new quattro is said to be able to spring to 100 km/h / 62 mph in a scant 3.9 seconds and return a fuel economy of 8.5 liters/100 km (27.67 mpg US).
That's fairly quick and efficient, and it's all thanks to a fantastic 9.48 lb / horsepower ratio and a huge weight reduction.
Using the venerable RS5 as a starting point, designers have cut 150 millimeters (5.9 inches) out of the wheelbase - now 2.6 meters - and chopped the roof by 40 mm in order to save weight from the get-go. Dimensions officially come in at 4.28 m long, 1.86 m wide, and 1.33 m tall.
In order to reach a svelte 1,300 kilograms / 2,866 lbs (200 kilos / ~441 lbs less than the TT RS), Audi used an abundance of aluminum and carbon fiber. The carbon fiber was primarily used for the hood, hatch, spoiler, and other bits. Designers have also thrown out the rear seats, which have been replaced with a helmet / luggage shelf.
Within the front fascia is an all-LED light setup (same goes for the rear), between which sits Audi's signature wide-mouth grille. Move to the front wide-body fenders and appreciate that underneath lies a 5-link suspension with "key components" in aluminum.
At the rear, the separate springs and dampers of the track-controlled trapezoidal-link suspension use elastic bearings as mounts on the steel subframe. Now look at it from about 20 feet back and you'll see that the fenders just appear to be too integrated and not sharp enough to do the original car justice.
Open the door to see a very nicely detailed (albeit a bit spartan) interior. The two 18-kilo passenger seats have either three- or four-point harnesses, while the driver faces a fully digital display which has two modes, "normal" and "race". If opting for race mode, Audi says the graphics "revisit and refine" the Ur-quattro's digital display.

The 2011 Lotus Elise that was unveiled in Geneva earlier this year powered by Toyota’s new Valvematic engines will continue to soldier on until 2015 where it will be replaced with the above model – a new Elise that’s said to have ‘grown up’.

It’s certainly grown heavier – at the preliminary 1,095kg quoted curb weight that’s about 200kg heavier than the current Elise which weighs only about 900kg depending on trim level. The new Elise promises to be much more cosseting to its driver though – less awkward to get in and get out – the press release by Lotus specifically says no more acrobatics!

“The Elise you can buy now is still a fantastic car, make no mistake, Lotus remain very proud of it, but this is a natural progression for us moving forward. The Elise 2015 will also be class-leading in terms of performance and efficiency but it will do more than that it will take the Elise model to the forefront of its class across the board,” said Lotus CEO Dany Bahar.

To push around the extra weight, the Elise’s engine has grown to a 2.0 liter force inducted motor making 320 PS and 330Nm of torque. It will remain mid-engined and rear wheel driven like the current Elise, and the spec sheet even lists an optional Dual Clutch Transmission, taking the burden of shifting off the driver to help him focus more on the actual corners.

I think it would make sense if once this new Elise is launched, Lotus continued to offer the Elise in its current form as some kind of “Elise Classic” for those who really still want a machine minimum mobile.

The new Lotus Elite concept was the only car out of the 5 new concepts that Lotus unveiled much before the official Paris unveiling. If the Esprit is a supercar like a 458 Italia and the Eterne is a 4-door GT like the Rapide, the new Elite is a 2+2 GT like an Aston Martin DB9. Under the hood is the same 620 PS 720Nm high-revving 5.0 liter V8 that’s we’ve seen in all the big-powered new Lotus cars that were unveiled at Paris.

“There’s no denying that the Elite is breathtakingly beautiful to look at but it’s so much more than that, it’s a car that over delivers in all other aspects as well. One could say it’s a car of perfect contradictions, it’s compact yet spacious, high performing yet low emitting, lightweight yet still reassuringly solid. It’s a car that we are exceptionally proud of at Lotus and we truly believe that there is nothing else like it out there both in terms of styling and performance,” says Lotus CEO Dany Bahar.

“Make no mistake, there’s a definite market requirement for the Elite – it’s the ultimate sports car feel with comfort and space. There will always be those who believe that Lotus should stick to small sports cars but we didn’t take the decision to design something like the Elite lightly, it’s based on months of careful research and planning. It’s worth noting that total 2+2 production represented over 20 per cent of Lotus build between 1948 and 1996 (pre small car platform) and 11 per cent over all, this sector has been very successful for us in the past and now the Elite raises the benchmark higher still,” he added.

Lotus intends to put the Elite into production in early 2014 with an estimated price tag of £115,000. For comparison’s sake, an Aston Martin DB9 goes for between £122k to £132k.

Look after the jump for more pix and a video of the new Lotus Elite. The video has a very short 3D animation of the car’s convertible roof folding down around the 1 minute and 25 second mark. Of course, it’s still a concept car for now with no working rolling chassis – the car hopefully will be put into production by early 2014
