Hyundai unveiled a new car at the 2010 Moscow International Motor Show today called the Hyundai Concept RB. It’s size puts it in the sub-compact B segment, which means it’s about the same size as the Hyundai Accent.
The car is targeted at the Russian market (and likely other similar economies) and will begin production in January 2011 at Hyundai’s Saint Petersburg plant in Russia. Two engines are available – either a 1.4 liter Gamma CVVT with 107 PS and 135Nm or a 1.6 liter Gamma CVVT engine producing 124 PS and 156Nm. Both engines will be mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed auto.
Just days after launching the brand new Accent in Beijing Hyundai has now unveiled the latest generation Avante or Elantra at the Busan International Motor Show in Korea. Just like other latest offerings from Hyundai the Avante has received the company’s “fluidic sculpture” design language and it looks very good! Definitely much better than the outgoing one.
Among others the new Avante comes with features such as HID headlights, LED taillights along with a TFT LCD information display screen in the instrument panel. It even has heated rear seats.
According to the rather short press release power comes from the company’s latest 1.6 liter Gamma gasoline engine with direct injection. Power output is figured at 138hp while offering 166Nm of torque. This engine also features Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing and a Variable Induction System.
"The new Avante encompasses Hyundai's latest ambitions, featuring the best styling and performance in its class," Steve S. Yang, President & CEO of Hyundai's Global Business Division, said at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO) today. "We're confident that it will once again redefine the compact segment worldwide."
It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission which makes this Hyundai’s first GDI engine that is paired with a 6-speeder on a compact sedan.
Hyundai Accent Wallpaper This is the all new Hyundai Accent or Verna as it is known in other markets. It made its debut at the 2010 Beijing Automotive Exhibition and will be first sold in China before being introduced in other markets.
The 2011 Accent measures 4,340mm in length, 1,700mm in width, 1,460mm in height, and has a relatively long wheelbase of 2,570mm.Hyundai claims that the small sedan's overall cabin dimensions are bigger than any rivals and that it comes with a 454lt trunk that can "easily accommodate as many as four golf bags plus three small tote bags."
The China market Verna will be offered with a selection of two petrol engines. The base 1.4-liter inline-four produces 106HP and 135.4Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm, and comes with the choice of a five-speed manual gearbox or four-speed automatic transmision.
The larger displacement 1.6-liter that delivers 121HP and 155Nm of peak torque will be offered exclusively with a four-speed automatic transmission.
For the China market, the Hyundai Verna will be built at the company's Beijing plant starting from July and will go on sale in the country in the second half of this year.
The Hyundai Sonata 2.0T also made its debut during the 2010 New York Motorshow featuring Hyundai’s 2.0-litre Theta II turbocharged GDI engine. Official figures which stands at 274 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 375 Nm of torque from 1,800-4,500 rpm means power-to-weight ratio (12.2)which which is higher than the Camaro V6.
Paired to Hyundai’s self-developed six-speed automatic (with steering wheel shift paddles), the 2.0T’s official consumption figures are 7.8 km/l in the city and 12 km/l on the highway, which is decent for the performance on offer.
